‘You can teach what you know but will produce what you are!’

‘If you give assignments, you train workers, but when you give mandates, you train leaders!’

Wow! These punchy, hard-hitting revelations kept coming throughout the power-packed Leadership Masterclass for session three on Saturday morning.

There are so many nuggets to share from this session to fill up pages of script. We would, however, summarise the highlights!

Visionary Leadership

Pastor Arno took us down memory lane as he reminisced that though he had always had the formal title of ‘leader’ from the age of twenty-four, while serving in different capacities and at various levels in the church, he had to learn to see himself as a leader. He stressed the importance of first acknowledging and seeing oneself as a leader because being ignorant of this monumental fact brings harm and damage to the body of Christ. Similarly, growing as a leader grows your organisation.

He then described the main characteristics of a leader; he taught that powerful leadership is driven by a powerful leader who therefore should be an embodiment of passion: passion for his/her vision, wisdom, inspiration, and motivation with courage.

He paid particular attention to the characteristic: ‘Passion for Vision’. For him, vision is everything and you do everything for the vision, because vision is a revelation from God and what you see with the eyes of your heart. It is what a leader lays his life for. Therefore, ‘passion for the vision’ powers every other characteristic of a leader.

Leadership is Servanthood:

Another important highlight is that leadership is servanthood. He asked all the leaders to be aware of this, as every leader is an ambassador, whose environment responds to their words. In this session, leaders were reminded that they were leaders all the time, and so should not let emotions lead. He continued by saying that the highest calling of a leader is serving in any capacity. Leadership starts by ‘being in the process’; ‘by doing,’. One cannot lead what they have not done themselves; this therefore makes leaders pioneers.

Final Highlights from this Session:

The final highlight is that love for Christ is number one because of ‘the paradox of a leader.’

2 Corinthians 6:4-6 espouses this paradox:

‘’Rather, as servants of God, we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love.’’

Pastor then mandated every leader to persevere, so that the vision will endure.

Throughout the session, Pastor Arno used the powerful examples of Solomon, David, and our Master Jesus, to spotlight the rallying call to the leadership of New Wine.

This session was simply riveting, thought provoking and packed punch after punch!
